Babywearing is a centuries-old practice that’s making a strong comeback, and for good reason - it’s not just about convenience; babywearing offers a range of benefits for both you and your baby.

Keeping your baby close fosters a deep emotional connection. Skin-to-skin contact and the gentle rhythm of your heartbeat create a sense of security for your baby, strengthening the bond between you.


2. Supports Emotional and Physical Development

Babywearing provides a comforting environment that mimics the womb. Babies carried in a sling/wrap often cry less and experience lower stress levels. The upright position also aids in digestion and reduces issues like unsettled tummies.


3. Hands-Free Convenience

  • Wraps: Long pieces of fabric that can be tied in different ways for a custom fit.

  • Ring Slings: Fabric threaded through rings for quick adjustments.

  • Structured Carriers: Offer buckles and padding for extra support.


Consider your baby’s age, your comfort, and the carrier’s ease of use when making your choice.


2. Learn Proper Positioning

For safe and comfortable babywearing, remember the T.I.C.K.S. rules:

  • Tight: Ensure the carrier holds your baby securely.

  • In view at all times: You should always be able to see your baby’s face.

  • Close enough to kiss: Your baby’s head should be close enough to kiss.

  • Keep chin off chest: Ensure there’s room for your baby to breathe - by their chin not touching their own chest.

  • Supported back: Your baby’s back should be well-supported in a natural position.


3. Practice at Home

Start by practicing with your carrier at home. Use a mirror to check your positioning and ensure your baby is comfortable. Practicing near a bed or sofa can give you some piece of mind while you are practicing too!


4. Join a Group or Library
